Week 13

Level Up My Physical Health

I bought a new book “The Happy Body”.

P90X and Darebee aren’t doing the job anymore.

Their workouts are not easy. Perhaps too advanced for me. Maybe I’m weak or I lack the discipline to commit to it.

But regardless of the reason, following their program isn’t helping me anymore.

P90X was the fad back then. People who used to do the workout (regularly) don’t do it anymore.

Darebee was a good alternative. It didn’t require a lot of time. But I stopped doing it because it became boring.

I’m not saying these workouts don’t work. They definitely work for others but not for me. I can keep convincing myself to commit to being healthy but that never works. So what do I do? Find a program, an activity or at least something that would get my body moving.

Participating in Sports was an option. But it requires time commitment and money so that wasn’t an option for me.

Joining a gym was also an option. But I don’t really wanna spend that much money or time in a gym. Patience dry up quickly when I have to wait for my turn (when it’s crowded).

And then I heard of, The Happy Body – a simple program that doesn’t require a lot of cardio. It focuses on improving your flexibility, strength, and speed using dumbells and a mat.

The exercises looked simpler than P90X or Darebee. For my health, I’m taking the path of “least resistance”. A simple strategy I use to get me committed to something. Failure can be demotivating, so why not start with something super simple to allow you to succeed? Go for the “small” wins!

Like your Aeroplan, Air Miles or PC points, small wins build up.

Just like Meditation, I will give it 3-months of testing. I wanted to explore it further to see if it works for me.

The Morning Routine

I love my mornings. It’s actually what I look forward to before going to bed. Why?

I get to: drink coffee, read a book, meditate, check the social media, make my turmeric drink, take a cold shower and eat breakfast.

You’ll notice those things I mentioned are ordinary things ordinary people do. Nothing special but I have a lot of appreciation for it. Saying those things makes me feel like a grampa but I don’t care. I’m weird and I embrace it 😉

Happiness is created from the inside. You have full control over it. However, some things are out of your control such as the bad things that happen in your external environment. Some will hit a cord that brings out the Hulk in you. You can be upset or be understanding about the whole situation.

Your reaction is a reflection of who you are as a person. Your choice. But but…

As humans, it’s almost impossible to be happy all the time. I mean, I’m no saint either, I also talk shit about other people but I keep that to a minimum. But there’s a good strategy of dealing with it. It is the idea of Stoicismthe endurance of pain or hardship without a display of feelings and without complaint” (as per Google definition).

I bought Ryan Holiday’s book on it. I read it daily. Instead of browsing on your phone or reading on a magazine while you’re taking a dump – read this instead.

It’s a quick read (less than two minutes of your life). Shit happens. We all know that. But the question is: What are you going to do about it?
