Week 33

Anime

I recently started a new MS Paint series on Instagram: Anime/Video Game Female Characters.

It was a suggestion that came up from that party I was at a loooooooooooong time ago but I never dismissed the idea.

Working on this series triggered me to watch anime – to get the inspiration and ideas flowing. 

It took me a while to decide what to watch on Netflix. My pick? Fairy Tail.

The title doesn’t sound appealing. But I was curious enough that I gave it a shot anyway.

Its story is not about “Fairy TALES” (I know the title is misleading). It’s about wizards and guilds and stuff. But that’s not the reason why I enjoyed watching it – it was the funny script and storyline.

I found myself laughing at the most random sh*t that makes me wonder about or admire the writer’s sense of humor. One of them was when this wizard summoned the zodiac “Virgo”. I expected a beautiful mythic female being to help save the day. But nope – a fat and ugly woman came down from the skies. WTF?! After a while, I realized why she was created that way – because she’s a ‘Virgo’, a virgin.

Ok I’ll stop. I don’t expect you to get that or to find it funny but that’s exactly why I need to stop sharing because none of these will make sense.

But it made me realize why I like anime in the first place – the kind of humor other culture/group of people may or may not get. Corny at times but I still like it.

Sleep

It seems like I need to be mentally exhausted to get a better sleep. That’s what I noticed this week.

Physical exhaustion is not enough (I don’t think). Or maybe I’m not physically exhausted enough?

I attempted to track my sleeping habits for a week. But I wasn’t able to follow through because I keep forgetting to write what I did the night before and how I felt the next day.

You’re probably thinking “You’re thinking too much about it”.

Well, I care about sleep a lot – because now I understand why it’s super f*kin important. Listening to episodes from Shawn Stevenson’s Podcast and the one with Matthew Walker and Joe Rogan influenced me to care more about sleep. “Care more” to a point where I needed it to make it the most important thing I need to do EVERY day.

Here’s what I learned/tried so far to increase guarantee my chances of a good sleep…

  • No naps. A friend of mine made fun of me for that. Only seniors take naps. Napping is good as long as it doesn’t turn into sleep. “Napping” can screw up your sleep cycle if you nap for a long time (which I tend to do to extend a good nap).
  • Melatonin pills work for a while but I wouldn’t rely on it.
  • Having an A/C also helps this summer. Colder temperature helps with sleep.
  • Wearing socks will help. And a sleep mask.
  • Eat less at night.

I need that kind of sleep to help me maintain my focus and have clarity – especially when I plan my next move for my…
