Week 34

What's On My Mind

“Am I doing too many things at the same time?”

Yea I suppose that’s what it looks like on the surface. I’m on parental leave and I plan to double-down on working on my personal side projects. Side projects I intend to make money from and/or expand or improve my skill set as an artist or a business owner.

While “taking a leave” sounds like an opportunity to take it easy, I’m scared of wasting it. I don’t know when I’ll have this opportunity again. We are not planning to have another baby anytime soon. And so, every minute counts.

Here are some of the things I’m busying myself with (other than Lexi)…

  • become a certified presenter for the insurance managing general agency I work for
  • make my 1st dollar writing on Medium
  • write a new series that talks about how I spent my parental leave
  • started a podcast with a friend
  • content promotion on Instagram for my blog and artwork.
  • create a funnel for customers who want a personalized design…possibly an e-commerce store with Shopify

I do these things, not for the sake of being busy. I really wanna challenge myself to find success in these ventures. What do I get out of it? The skill and the overall experience. I gotta say it gives my life more colour. The journey is a lot more rewarding than the destination.

If I was the same person 10 years ago, I’d be complaining about boredom. But now I’m dealing with burnout. Nah the burnout is not bad, it’s just part of the process. It’s how I stretch myself to become better at…whatever I do.

A Year Ago This Week

  • I’m sleep deprived…but I remind myself not to bitch.
  • Advice for new parents.

Weekly Update

Personal Projects

I updated an old blog “A Poor Man’s Investment” to “How This Overlooked Investment Make You Rich”.

The result? It didn’t gain much traction as I thought. Now I’m wondering if I need to update the headline. But then at the same time, I realized that the article is not really providing much value to the majority of the people I want to convince.

The gist of the article is that books are the cheapest investment you have access to and can provide the highest result.

***

Two insurance presentations this week. One more to allow me to get certified as a presenter.

Routine

My morning routine is almost the same – get up, make coffee, journal, write or workout. However, I’m inconsistent with my wake-up time.

Being with Lexi for a week is a big adjustment for me. I’m still learning her routine. But once I have that figured out, I can mesh hers with mine. An example of that is her nap time. We can either take a nap at the same time or I can work on my side projects or clean-up our mess from our breakfast or lunch.

Moms make it look easy.

I respect you.

Finance

I’m on parental leave and rely heavily on government support.

This is another reason why I’m double-downing on my side projects to help with the expenses.
