Week 40

My manager pulled me into his office for a “quick chat”.

Of course, whenever you get asked, “Come in to my office when you get a chance”, you wonder, “WTF did I do now?”. Nothing comes to mind, so instead of feeling worried, I just approached it with curiosity: see how it goes and if things go sideways, just come up with a good excuse.

We talked for almost an hour—about my career goals and if I’m interested in providing assistance when my superiors are not around to fulfill whatever needs to be done.

I was cold messaged by a job recruiter on Linkedin, asking if I was interested in becoming a Sales Engineer for her clients.

She knew how I wasn’t actively looking for new job opportunities. However, I’m curious. I wanna learn more about the position: How much does it make? How much travelling is involved? How often do I get to work from home?

I wanted to know the answers to these questions to help me figure out what I’m worth.

Let’s not forget: “Worth” is subjective. You may be worth it for one person but completely average to the other. Understanding more about what’s out there will help you position yourself to an advantage.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I wanna get better at prompting AI to give me answers.

This week, I learned about how AI is used to figure out the positions you’re gonna be perfect fit for, write your resume (according to the job description) and write your cover letter as well. Now now, this does not mean you can conveniently copy+paste the output from AI—you still have to edit it to make sure it captures your voice.

AI is only there to help you get started.

But if you’re too lazy to polish it up, then perhaps, you shouldn’t be using AI in the first place.

Recorded another podcast with a fellow Night Owl Nation member.

She reminded me of my life in the Philippines and drew stories I could then use for content. Over time, I became more and more comfortable sharing stories I’m embarrassed to share. Also, I highly doubt my content will pop out in everyone’s feed lol. So, why not share it?

Embarrassing stories come with timeless lessons.

Ordered True Classic t-shirts because none of my shirts are “office-friendly”.

They either have tiny holes in them (from overuse), they have large prints, too baggy, and too small.

The True Classic shirts I ordered are just right. That’s me saying, “I’m happy with my purchase”.

A Year Ago This Week

  • bought books on building expertise online and frameworks.
  • we were in and out of the hospital.
  • I didn’t even realize it’s Thanksgiving weekend
