Week 5

What's On My Mind

I need to get my sh*t together…

I realized that the quality of work I’m putting out needs more improvement.

The newest members in our team pointed out how some of the info I provide them causes confusion which doesn’t help them finish the job accurately and on time.

My first reaction was to blame them for their lack of creativity to figure out an answer.

I know I know it’s a big ask. But I thought those simple problems could help them develop their creativity and resourcefulness to find answers themselves.

Feeling stuck? Not sure what to do? ASK!

No, don’t ask me. Ask other more seasoned team members whos dealt with the same issue before.

I can’t spoon-feed you with information every-fn-time!

Or so I thought…

This concern went up to our supervisors. We had a meeting and concluded that I need to provide the newbies more simplified info so they can pump their work out like hotcakes.

In my head, I was like, “I can do that, however, this means robbing my team members of developing the skill to solve problems. Are we building a team of robots?”.

I was conflicted.

Until my supervisors clarified that that’s exactly what where we wanna go – not exactly develop “robots” but to create a process that takes away thinking and/or decision making so we can focus on production.

They understood that a workplace consists of employees who like to innovate while others just want to do do do – no thinking – just do.

I wrote about this years ago… [read here]

A strong team to me is an army of innovators – not robots.

But regardless of what I think, I will fully support the “Commander’s Intent”.

A Year Ago This Week

  • I bitched about the cold weather.
  • I painfully acknowledged my deficiency… *this looks a January pattern*
  • needed to remind me to “try hard..then try harder!”

Goal Update

Personal Projects

Not a lot of work done this week because I feel exhausted – work made me feel too exhausted to spend time on my side projects.

I feel overwhelmed.

To address this, I downloaded a “Pomodoro Technique” app and put it to test.

Routine

Zero push-ups. Zero squats.

No meditation.

I haven’t “sick sick” in a long time. Monday, I had a fever in the middle of the night WHICH was immediately solved by Tylenol.

The news about the coronavirus outbreak did not really scare me as I barely pay attention to the news.

I was more worried about Lexi getting sick again – the kind she had last time.

Seems like my fever was not caused by a virus. It was probably due to lack of recovery.

I intend to fix that next week…

Finance

Finally, someone’s going to take over our lease. We would save 1-month of rent due to this.

I’m also going to cancel my internet subscription. Savings there as well.

Now we have to start packing.
