Week 17

What's On My Mind

“I need to get back into creating a daily schedule again or at least a to-do list…”

Working at home has its challenges: I can’t seem to stay away from Lexi 😛

But I have to create boundaries to maintain my focus at work (at home).

To create those boundaries, first, I need to understand her daily routine – then work around that routine.

Btw she’s free to distract me anytime – except when I’m in a virtual meeting.

But that idea of “understanding routines” quickly expands to other areas as I also wanna start creating a weekly plan of our groceries for the whole month and other activities that keep our sanity in check.

The scheduling/planning removes the everyday concern of “So uhh what’s Lexi’s food today..?”

The “doing” part is easy, “creating the task” on the other hand, requires some thinking.

And the “thinking” requires creativity.

But “creativity” is not easy. It takes careful consideration of working around the limits the routine you spent weeks or months to build.

Once I’ve got the whole routine and planning all figured out, I can then probably create a “system” that hopefully runs by itself. That means, no more thinking about this and that, things will just flow smoothly as a product of habit. You just do do do.

Thus, allowing us (the parents) to focus more on losing weight living a healthier lifestyle LOL.

A Year Ago This Week

  • During this week, I’m also thinking about productivity. What the hell? Is this a consistent pattern? Or coincidence?
  • Work Talk: On Promotion and Job Titles.
  • I miss our privacy at the apartment. But last year, this week, we considered moving to a house due to noisy neighbors.

Weekly Update

Personal Projects

A friend found himself deep into the online-business-space.

That’s a good thing. Now I have another person I can bounce ideas with and challenge my side income ideas.

If no one questions what you do, chances are your idea isn’t worth that much attention. Therefore, you might wanna reconsider a different idea…or tweak on your current idea.

Right now, all my side projects are put to a halt except for my career in the life insurance industry.

I’m no multi-tasker, I can only focus on one thing at a time.

Routine

Meditate. Journal. These are things I added to my daily schedule.

This was driven by this new resource I received from [The Art of Learning Project].

There are resources in there I now use such as Toggl – to track how much time I spend on a task.

Why track? Well if you can’t track it, then you can’t improve it. #productivitybasics

It also has free Google Sheets you can edit to track when are you most focused in a day or when do you feel most creative. You track these things so you can schedule things around your energy level.

For instance, I am not going to read or write in the afternoon because that’s when my focus is the lowest.

This is the same resource that brought me the idea to create a schedule/plan.

And also because my fiancee and I are going to have our own biggest loser competition starting next month lol.

Finance

My car is now on storage insurance – since I am now working at home.

That saves us a little bit of money.

That makes up for the reduced hours at work.

I also heard that MPI is going to give its customers some credit because no one is driving due to the pandemic.
