Week 31

I drove to the US border again, however this time I was alone.

It turns out, my Nexxus application came through and I need to go for an interview. Being this is my 2nd time to drive there, I thought it would be easy peasy. But my thoughts failed me.

I thought it would only take me an hour to get there.

But when I put in the address and everything in my GPS, it’s showing me that it would take about 1.5 hrs! WTF!

Now, before that heart-pumping realization happened, I decided to leave 30-mins early. Fifteen minutes to get gas. Fifteen minutes to chill out at the US border before going in for the interview.

Well, none of that happened.

Now, I’m staring at the fuel meter on my dashboard. I was torn whether I should just go because I’m gonna be late and deal with running out of gas last or rebook the interview. But then I thought, “Taking another day off for this would be stupid. I’m going!”.

I thought the whole 1.5 drive would be filled with anxiety of having the interview, “What questions are they gonna ask me? Are they gonna grill me about that time when we got pulled over to the garage? Perhaps they wanna talk about how often I travel to the US for work?”

But nope! I worried more about getting denied the interview because I was late or running out of gas.

Long story short: I was 5 minutes late and did not run out of gas…but I almost did when I drove back to Canada.

If you kept reading my long story above, then that tells me that I’m getting better at storytelling.

That is what I’m currently learning as a member of Night Owl Nation.

This month, I’m gonna focus more on writing 1-minute stories than writing articles for publications on Medium. That means earnings for this month are not going to be much because I’m experimenting.

I was given the opportunity to work on 3 major macros at work!

Very exciting and challenging opportunity. Why? Doing an excellent job on those projects will help me create a “stronger brand” at work as “The Macro Guy”.

I wanna get paid more and secure my position at work—not that I think my position is in danger but so I can test the theories I have for standing out and getting paid more at work. If that turns out to be a success..then I’m gonna write about it.

Like I said, strategic lol.

A Year Ago This Week

  • I was about to get another gout flare-up BUT…I was able to suppress it.
  • I tried to get back to MSPainting but realized that I don’t have the same “passion” for it.
  • I’ve been taking cold showers without a stopwatch for about a month.
