Week 44

What's Your Prime Time ?

Any work I do beyond 8 AM will not be as good as the work I’ve done between 3:30 AM and 6:00 AM.

While life seems to be very busy – there are random cases where I have a lot of free time.

And because I wanted to be productive, I thought of using that random free time to do some work.

But when I do the work, it almost always feels like the quality is half-assed. Why?

Because I’m forcing myself to accomplish it.

And because it’s forced, I find it difficult to get into it.

It might be as simple as saying “Just do it!”.

But there’s actually more to it.

Working mindlessly becomes a waste of time because you don’t pay attention to the process.

The focus is more on “getting something done” as opposed to “getting something USEFUL done”.

In-text, the difference is subtle but a BIG BIG difference in terms of quality.

“Hello I’m trying to focus but my eyes…deceive me”

What Do We Do Now?

Change is constant.

While some things stay the same, other things change drastically.

And when drastic change happens, it often puts us in a state of panic.

Sudden snowstorm, a new discovery, emergencies, earthquakes – all these things happen naturally. Unusual? Yes, but it less likely because Life has cursed us. A lot of these things are beyond our control.

Change is neither good or bad – it really depends on what you make of it.

I write about this because we are about to go through some changes in our routine again. What’s “new” will eventually become “normal”.

“Change” initially shakes our current lifestyle but after a while, we eventually learn to adapt to it.

“Change” just like anything, can be viewed from different angles – some good, while others are bad.

And because we are gifted with the power of choice, doesn’t it make more sense if we dwell on the positive angles?

What do we do now?

We keep going 🙂

What's The Next Step?

I noticed how sometimes I dwell too long in the planning process, trying to get everything right the first time.

But that strategy often fails when we’re talking about the long game.

This is where “Quality” has its drawbacks.

“First Time Quality” is a gold-standard for manufacturing companies.

While its idea CAN be applied to your personal life, it doesn’t mean that we should.

Context plays an important role. Use it the wrong way and you’ll get the opposite result.

This is where “Analysis Paralysis” came from – our desire to do it right the first time.

But that’s just my theory 😛

“Help me carry on,
assure me it’s ok to
use my heart and not my eyes-
to navigate the darkness”

A Year Ago This Week

I wrote about…

  • creating a system – holy fuck I’m also thinking about having a system this morning. It seems like there’s a season for what I want to prioritize in a year.
  • the MSPaint version of my Face.
  • multi-tasking

Goal Update

Personal Projects

I caught myself working on generating income through my artwork MORE than the idea of acquiring clients online through my blog.

Back in Week 36, I decided to just focus on one project – educate others about insurance.

But my actions are conflicting with my plan.

This tells me that I’m avoiding something.

It could be my fear of failure and rejection – the realization that my idea is crappy.

I often catch myself being busy with other things to avoid taking action on critical things.

“I ain’t afraid to let it out
I’m not afraid to take that fall”

Health

We’re gonna have to do some re-organizing in our place and in our routine.

My in-laws left. We may have our privacy back but that also comes with a huge adjustment in our routine.

I’m sure we’ll figure it out.

“But I’m okay
When I lie down in your arms”

Finance

I reached the silver status on my credit card.

Yes, I get extra perks, but what I really wanted to point out is that our expenses haven’t gone down.

I need to re-calibrate this side of my life along with the routines and everything else.

Speaking of “re-calibrating”, how often do you do it?

Here’s how I do mine:

  • Every Day = Ice cold shower for 1-minute.
  • Every Week = Sunday is when I pick up groceries, meal plan and ensure I have enough work clothes to choose from.
  • Every Month = I don’t do it on a monthly basis but on a quarterly basis.
  • Every Year = I journal about my annual goals before the new year starts.
“What would you do?
