Week 7

What's On My Mind

I did not fully understand Jocko Willink’s “Discipline equals freedom”.

While it makes perfect sense to think that “discipline grants you freedom”, it also means that there should be a balance between “discipline” and “freedom”.

To be a successful leader, you need to be disciplined to avoid taking the path of least resistance but not “too disciplined” that you become rigid with your ways.

“Freedom” from discipline is a must to allow for flexibility – the ability to adapt to change as new information comes through.

This aligns with Jordan B. Peterson’s idea of “Order and Chaos”, where “too much” order leads to tyranny and complacency.

It also aligns with one of my favorite games: Assassin Creed – the story of the war between Templars and Assassins. One strives for a dictatorship-kind of leadership while the other strives for democracy.

But why the hell am I writing about this anyway?

It aligns with my current struggle between having a master plan and planning-on-the-go.

These past few months, I’ve been planning-on-the-go so much that I forgot about how important it is to take a moment to step back to craft a better approach to the problem.

This needs to change…

A Year Ago This Week

  • I heard Lexi’s heartbeat
  • Saw one of my ultimate fears in my dream.
  • I talked about my hypocrisy.

Weekly Update

Personal Projects

I’m slowly catching up with my to-do-list at work.

My career in the insurance industry is currently on-hold because all I can think about is moving out.

I prefer to do things one at a time.

I suck at multi-tasking.

Finished reading Extreme Ownership – which explains why I’m talking about the balance between discipline and freedom.

Routine

Sleep training Lexi is not an easy task but it’s worth the effort: longer sleep.

We might have found our cure to sleep deprivation.

To soon to tell yet but I think we’re headed in the right direction.

Her sleep training is also the reason why I’m posting this blog at a later time. Why?

I can’t walk in our room to write at 5:00 AM.

Finance

I need to take my car in for B123 service.

I’m hoping to finish moving by the end of this weekend.
