Week 14

Refreshed

That’s what I got out of our trip. It consisted of a lot of just chilling by the beach, staying in bed and watching episodes of Southpark.

This must have been the first vacation that made me feel refreshed and ready to tackle just about anything. Totally different from the other trips I’ve been in the past where each day is almost loaded with activities that made me feel more tired (though it was fun) rather than “refreshed”. But what exactly do I mean by “refreshed”?

It’s that feeling where you’re not super tired after the trip (what can I say, I love to sleep) and it also doesn’t feel like it was too long or too short. It just feels…right.

A lot of times, we feel like our vacations are too short. It must be because we didn’t get to do all the other fun stuff we intended to do. Or maybe because we just don’t wanna go back to work or face “reality”. I have a lot more to say about this but I will save it for future posts. This post is just an update for myself – a way to help me become more accountable with my actions.

Recalibrate

A good reason why we need to go for a vacation is so we can “get away from it all” even for a short period of time. Otherwise, we will burn out and stop functioning properly.

But of course, we will eventually have to face “reality”. There is really no way of getting around that.

In my case, I need to recalibrate myself and my goals in life. That means adjusting myself back from vacation-mode to this-is-reality-mode.

That also means reflecting back to the past few months and do a reality check on my goals.

Course-correction is required as I totally dismissed half of the goals I set-up at the beginning of this year (as per Week 13).

And that’s how I am going to spend my Sunday – rewrite my goals.

Resume

“AS YOU WERE!!”

Those were the words of my platoon leader after messing up a drill. It is short for “get back in position”.

No, I’m not in the military but back in high school in the Philippines, we had to learn basic military training.

That’s what I needed to tell myself after going for a vacation – get back into it. That means, not wishing I had longer vacation or finding excuses to extend my break. I realized that treating vacations that way will only steer you away from what you actually want to accomplish.

I wanted to use vacations as a way to recharge not to take me away from working hard by indulging myself with the pleasure of not worrying about anything.

Take a break, long enough that you will crave more of it but not too long that it loses the quality of pleasure you get from it. Similar to eating your favorite dish – it’s best if you eat it once in a while because you will get sick of it if you eat it every day.

Now that I’m back and refreshed, I demand that I must double-down my efforts towards my goals. Otherwise, I will slowly fall back in the realm of complacency – where dreams die and cause us to live a meaningless life.

STAY ON THE PATH!!

A Year Ago This Week

I…

  • was too excited that I became narrow-focused and lost sight of the goal.
  • drank coffee late in the evening. Find out why.
  • performed with flying colors…at work.

Goal Update

Side Income

  • Tenikles are here.
  • No other updates.

Health

  • Gutt is getting bigger. Need to take workout more seriously. I also need it to get a good sleep and reset my body clock.

Finance

The credit card was gouged. Of course, I knew that was going to happen.

But I’m not gonna let that go out of control.

That’s it for this week!
